Holy schnikes! ( Tommy Boy, best movie ever ) How exciting to be chosen for Spotlight Athlete!!
I started coming to ABC/IACF in January of 2016. I set my alarm Sunday evening for 4:13am to attend the Monday morning class because Phil 4:13 is my favorite bible verse. And I still have it set to that to this day! I was beyond nervous and worried to go to my first class. I knew no one, and had never done CF or BC my entire life. I thought maybe I would be the worst one, maybe I wouldn't even be able to finish a WOD, what the heck is a WOD??, maybe no one would talk to me! Well BOY was I wrong! Nicest people EVER, best coaches EVER. I DID finish the WOD! Sometimes I still come is last! My motto is slow and steady hehe!
I had all intentions of 'toning up' through March, because I was getting married in April, but continued on because I completely fell in love with the gym and the people! It's my happy hour without the alcohol! A place where I know people are counting on me to show up and miss me when I'm gone! A place that prays over others before each workout.
I always grew up playing sports and was a cheerleader through high school, so coming back to a gym after 14 years off was brutal! I was the definition of skinny fat. I couldn't walk up stairs without almost passing out and the only time I ran was to chase one of my kids! It took me six months to get ONE pull-up, and I always used the very lightest weight. The first two weeks, I definitely questioned whether or not I could physically keep going. My very first class I sat in my car for 17 minutes trying to talk myself out of it! But then I remembered 'I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me' and holy cow have I been strengthened lol!!
To Channel....thank you for your fight. Thank you for daily reminders of what is truly important in life. You are a blessing to so many. To Tommy....thank you for constantly pushing me and converting me to CrossFit ha! And thanks for showing up so early (and by that I mean 4:59am). To Warren...thank you for the motivation and yelling at the top of your lungs at me when I'm dying on the floor. I need it, let's be real. To Camilla...thank you for all your extra time spent with me and reassuring me that I can do anything! I sure miss you!
Thank you to all the girls (especially Alexis and Mel for showing me the way!!) and guys I work out with for taking me in and under your wing! I am truly blessed to be a part of this gym family! Thank you all!! Deb
I'm so excited to be co-spotlight athlete! And I can't imagine a better person to share it with than Debra!
I've been coming to the gym since May 2015. We had just moved to Bulverde and I drove past it every day on my way to and from work. I had wanted to try Crossfit for years, but with 3 young children and a full time job, I just couldn't get there. My sister in law bought a 10 class pass, so I decided that if she could find time to go, so could I! I never looked back (and wound up buying the rest of her pass). I love the workouts (even when I don't) and have met some of the best people. I was really excited when the 5 am class was announced. With work and kids, it's very hard to get to the gym at night, so I was determined to make the early time work. Getting out of bed at 4:15 is one of the hardest things to do, and I was only able to do it once or twice a week at first. But, like anything else, you get used to it, and you now I go 3-4 times a week. It's my time to do something for myself and hang out with my friends. Really I think the biggest reason I go is to see my friends!
I owe a big thank you to all of the coaches for their humor, knowledge, and patience:) Alexis
