Curtis Parsons 06/04 WEAR BLUE

Wow!  What an honor to be selected as the spotlight athlete!!

People often ask where I’m from, to which I reply, “Yes!”  Why?  When I moved to San Antonio in 2013, it was my 23 move!  I was born in Farmington, NM, but I’ve lived in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arkansas, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and New Zealand… So, I’m from everywhere!  My father has worked in the Oil Field for as long as I’ve been around and I’ve followed in his footsteps.  Don’t worry though, I love it and feel it has been a great benefit.  I have friends all over the world and make new ones all the time!
I am truly blessed to be married to my best friend Tara.  We’ve been married for 18 years and we have 2 wonderful kids.  April will turn 15 on the day of my Spotlight WOD and Curtis will turn 13 in July.  They keep us busy all the time and they are growing up so fast!
I started out college studying engineering but changed my major and got my Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Ministry from Harding University in Searcy, AR.  My original plan was to work as an engineer and support myself as a missionary.  My plan then changed to full time ministry.  My wife Tara and I had plans to work as full time missionaries in Belo Horizonte Brazil.  God had different plans though, we weren’t able to raise the funds, Tara was pregnant with our first child and our bills were stacking up.  I took a job in the oil field in Wyoming to figure out what next and and the rest is history.  I guess God liked the first plan better because I have been able to support our family while helping out the church in whatever ways are needed, teaching, preaching, music, A/V, children, youth, generosity, etc.  We have been blessed beyond our ability to count and truly enjoy helping out wherever we can.
I was a gymnast and Springboard Diver in High school and was a gymnastics coach for about 10 years.  Unfortunately, life got in the way and my health and fitness got put on hold.  I worked long hours, drove a lot and ate to stay awake.  As many of you know, low activity and a lot of junk food are not a good combination.  I decided about a year ago that enough was enough!  I was tired of being tired.  I was tired of making noises when I bent over because my belly got in the way.  I was tired of telling my kids what I USED TO be able to do.  I was determined to get healthy so I could ENJOY life.  Sometimes that means having a big meal with friends and family but it also means getting healthy so I can live to spend time with my grandchildren one day.  A friend told me about this thing called CrossFit.  It sounded great because of the gymnastics movements and I liked the class environment.  I worked out at several different gyms but my sister told me about this girl Channel and aMAZEn Boot Camp.  She told me about her battle with cancer and how she was always helping out the community.  I checked it out and I was hooked.  I’ve never been part of a gym like ABC.  The community is amazing and the spirit of ministry is exactly what I was looking for.  I can’t imagine a better fit to get fit.
I have many hobbies, but one of them is being a magician.  My magic company is called Acrobatic Magic and I try to incorporate acrobatics in my shows.  Boot Camp has helped me to be able to do much of what I used to be able to do.  I look forward to my best years ahead of me!  Thank you so much Channel and Tommy and all the coaches for all you do to make ABC and IACF what it is.  Of course, that wouldn’t be possible without all the fellow Boot Campers to provide encouragement along the way.  Thank you all for being the great friends that you are!

Thanks Again!
